The CGDent Council elections utilize the Alternative Vote (AV) system, providing a fairer and more representative outcome. Here’s how it works:
Rank Candidates: Eligible members rank the candidates in order of preference. A candidate needs over 50% of first preferences to win outright.
Elimination Process: If no candidate achieves this majority, the one with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed until someone is elected.
This method ensures that the elected representatives have significant support from their peers, reflecting the collective choice of the membership.
